Chapter Twenty-Six
Who’s Your Daddy?
WYATT
7PM
My old family was unrecognizable to me as we lugged them back inside my childhood home. My mates haphazardly tossing their remains in the living room while I did one final walkthrough and said my goodbyes to the place. And the last stop was my father’s office, where I gathered up any and all documents pertaining to the Knights of Gillivray.
When I was satisfied that there was nothing else of importance there, I rejoined my mates outside and gave a nod to Godric. He returned it as he slowly raised both hands up like a maestro.
“Ignium!” he shouted, making the house go up in a blaze of glory.
We stood and watched for a while, the shadows and heat of the flames reflecting off our eyes and bathing us in warmth as it all went up in smoke.
“We should get going so Godric can drop the barrier and the authorities can be called in. We don’t need it spreading to the neighbors. Hopefully, they won’t be foolish enough to send anybody in there to search for survivors. Not like there’d be anything left for them to find. Godric’s magical flame will take care of that,” Ambrose said, voice dry as the Sahara.
“Whenever you guys are ready. There’s nothing left for me here. My home is wherever ya’ll are.” I smiled as they enveloped me in a loving huddle.
“Let’s go home then, bumpkin. Mother is cooking dinner and we don’t want to keep our pack waiting. They won’t start eating without us, you know?”
I chuckled and ran my fingers through his white, silky hair that was wild atop his head today. “That sounds absolutely perfect. Nothing would make me happier.”

10PM
After the chaos of the past few days, things finally seemed to be calming down around here. We had my mother’s funeral, my father was back to sleeping without waking up screaming during the night, and I had a few hours to myself spent at the watering hole. Overall, things were slowly trickling back to normalcy.
That being said, I think I had put off interrogating my wolf spirit long enough. It was time for me to get some answers for his elusive behavior nearly a week ago.
Me: “Spill. I know you’ve been antsy lately. I need some answers.”
I stated calmly, not wanting to come off like I was attacking him. He would clam up if I took that approach.
Wolf: “What specifically would you like to know?”
I internally rolled my eyes so he didn’t miss it.
Me: “I should say everything, but I know you would just beat around the bush, so I’ll go with the direct approach. What were you really about to say when you referred to Alaric as ours? I know that’s not what you were going to say. You changed it at the last minute, but why?”
Wolf: “I couldn’t say it in front of Alaric. It would be too painful and I didn’t want things to become tense if my gut feeling was wrong.”
I hated that he was still being evasion.
